my string theory

September 10, 2010

For a while now I have been trying to move away from lifting samples from other people's records - I feel 'borrowing' heavily from other artists' output is a little fraudulent creatively... So the key thing for me has been to try and keep the essence and warmth of an old piece of vinyl - but by making it from scratch. Which brings me to the strings for my second album... Recorded in pub in North London. Processed through an old Akai valve reel-to-reel tape machine...

The sound of strings is a beautiful thing and even the laptop musician knows there is no substitute for the real thing. Here are a few pics of the recording session.

Great shots!! I love strings and I especially that you brought the players in for an authentic feel for it. Laurent, I was wondering if you have received my email that I sent to you?
